Education & Experience

Riley Ann is as diverse of a teacher as she is a performer. Having performed in classical, old-time, bluegrass, rock, electronic, jazz, and blues settings, she is dedicated to supporting each of her students’ individual journeys in music. She enjoys working with students of all ages and in all genres, incorporating “practical theory” in-context to help students gain an understanding of how & why music works while also tapping into music as an intuitive art form. She strives to instill a lifelong love of music & approaching instruments as vehicles for self-expression & self-empowerment.

Riley Ann triple-majored at the University of Wisconsin Platteville in Music, English Education, and Middle Level Education. She taught high school English for six years in the Midwest prior to moving to Colorado to pursue her music career and is well versed in best practices in pedagogy. She currently plays out with The Catcalls (blues/rock), as a one-woman band (live looping), with Dave Jensen (acoustic/electric duo), and occasionally various area bands as a soloist & guest performer. Her music has garnered attention from Relix Magazine, Bandwagon Magazine, Taste Music, and more, and has been heard on various radio stations, including The Colorado Sound, KRFC, KGNU, KZUM, and more. She’s been dubbed, “…one of the region’s most enigmatic performers” on Chris K’s playlist on The Colorado Sound and enjoys balancing teaching with gigging around the area as well as cross-country tours. In addition to maintaining a private studio, Riley also works with Little Kids Rock as a Youth Music Collective coach, supports a local middle school band, and volunteers with Girls Rock Denver (curriculum development, band coach, guitar & drum instructor, & more), Colorado Master Gardeners, KGNU Community Radio, and as the founder of the Coalition of Women Songwriters.
