This is a quick introduction to the block editor and Kadence blocks.

Typically if you just have simple text and images, you’ll want to use the Narrow page layout so that it’s easy to read. Choose the Page Settings icon next to Save at top right and choose Narrow as the Page Layout.

When you need a wider layout for another type of content (a gallery or anything else) you can add text in rows to make it narrower than the other parts. See below…

For simple text use the plain paragraph block (to see this, open the left sidebar List View by clicking the three-line icon beside ‘Design Library’ at top left). If you need to add padding or margins or do anything else with text, change the block to the blue Kadence Advanced Heading block.

This is the Advanced Heading block. Use for all headings and for paragraphs, spans and divs as needed.

Notice that all the Kadence Pro blocks are BLUE. Use these for more features than the plain Gutenberg blocks.

I like to put different types of content in Row blocks as it makes it easy to clear the content above, work with very wide or very narrow content, and to keep things organized. Since the part below is different, I’ll use another Row to separate it out. You can name each row by right-clicking in the List View to the left.

Advanced Image Block

This block works like the old ‘add media’ function. You can change the size and alignment. Be sure to add alternative text.

Accordion

Accordions are good for putting a lot of content, like an FAQ section, in a small space.

When you add an accordion it comes in already formatted, just add content.

Easy peasy.

Gallery

You can duplicate a row (or most other elements) so you don’t have to start from scratch, or even copy a row and paste it in another page or post.

For a gallery, you can choose the images, the layout, add captions, and rearrange the images as needed. Use the Advanced Gallery block (blue). You can even make a carousel or thumbnail slider – it’s very flexible.
