Lessons are based on the songs you love. Whether you want to play Duke Ellington, Led Zeppelin, or Taylor Swift, the basic principles of music are the same. You’ll be introduced to new artists and styles, too, as we cover the history and geography of the instrument.

We’ll build a solid technical foundation along with skills like Travis picking, blues bends, and sweep arpeggios. We’ll study theory to learn how music is built and use that knowledge to sight-read, improvise, and write songs. Finally, we’ll work on performing to connect with audiences, from groups of friends around campfires to festival crowds.

Lesson Rates

  • $150.00 per month for weekly 1/2 hour lessons
  • $300.00 per month for weekly 1 hour lessons
  • $100.00 per hour for single lessons
  • Current weekly students may book additional lessons for $80 per hour.

  • Studied at the University of Colorado Denver, the Barry Harris Workshop, and privately with various teachers including Charlie Banacos, Jimmy Bruno (of the Buddy Rich Orchestra), and Richard Lloyd (of Television).
  • Guitar Instructor (2014-Present) – Boomer Music Company
  • Jazz Guitar Teacher (2007-Present) – Guitars, etc., Longmont CO
  • Acoustic, Electric, and Fretless Guitar Instructor (2002-2007) – Colorado Music Instruction Center, Longmont CO
  • Appears on over 25 albums, including four solo albums.
  • Founded the Curious Automata record label in 2013.
  • Author of the Thesaurus of Diatonic Sets (2013) and the Index of Movement in Diatonic Sets (2014).

  • Guitarist (2022-Present) – Eric Ottem Jazz Unit (Small ensemble jazz from the 1950s and 1960s)
  • Guitarist (2013-Present) – Analogues of Infinity (solo improvisations, live and a series of studio albums)
  • Guitarist (2005-2021) – Graphite Addiction (Fusion jam band, released six albums)
  • Guitarist (2007-2019) – The Pete & Vic Duo (Swing Jazz, released an album in 2013)
  • Guitarist (2011-2013) – Indigent Row (Celtic Progressive Rock. Performances include the Rocky Mountain Irish Festival, Oskar Blues, and the Emerald Isle Festival)
  • Freelance Musician (1998-Present) – Recordings and live performances with various jazz ensembles, The Sorry Little Blues Band, and the traditional folk music group Aspen Street.
