Education & Experience

Howdy there ! My main instrument of study is banjo, but a true lover of Americana Music and stylings on all the instruments (including but not limited to- bluegrass, oldtime, jazz, funk, country, jam, folk, blues, rock), but most specifically that “high lonesome” bluegrass sound.   I’m an active gigging musician, playing solo, in several duo projects,  filling in with several different bands, on whatever instrument is needed (usually banjo or guitar).   Originally from the state of Georgia, but growing up in the country of North Florida I have a background of those rooted music styles and the passionate, fun, exciting, welcoming, community based basis of the music.

I have been teaching independently for three years now, and before that was volunteering at a high school in Florida “American Music”program for two years via the Saint Johns County Center For The Arts program teaching banjo and guitar.

I have studied privately under people like Jake Workman, Cory Walker, and Chris Henry.

I like to keep things light, and always try to maintain the main idea of why we play music – to have fun!  One of my favorite parts about teaching is showing people things/songs that make that individual excited to play! Whilst doing so,  bringing elements of technique, tone, feel, rhythm, groove, and theory into the picture, and how and where to apply those tools.  If I can affect one person by bringing on the enlightenment of music into their life the way my main guitar instructor did, my mission on Earth is complete!
